The AVR ISP ATMEGA8–ATMEGA128 programmer allows you to upload and update programs on compatible AVR microcontrollers. Using ISP (In-System Programming), it programs the microcontroller directly on its circuit board without requiring removal. It is suitable for learning, prototype development, and embedded system maintenance. USBasp models sold under this designation connect to a computer’s USB port.
The specifications below apply to the common USBasp version. The connector type and power supply options should be confirmed for the actual model being sold.
Computer interface: USB connection.
Programming method: ISP, allowing the microcontroller to be programmed directly on its circuit board.
Compatible microcontrollers: including ATmega8, ATmega16, ATmega32, ATmega64, and ATmega128, as well as several ATtiny models, depending on the programming software and programmer firmware.
Programming connector: 10-pin ISP interface on common versions.
Functions: reading and writing Flash program memory and EEPROM, and configuring fuse bits and lock bits.
Programming speed: up to approximately 5 KB/s for USBasp models, depending on operating conditions.
Low-frequency programming: an option to slow down the SCK signal for microcontrollers operating at low clock frequencies.
Supported operating systems: Windows, Linux, and macOS, with the appropriate drivers or configuration depending on the operating system.
Some versions offer selectable 3.3 V / 5 V target power. This feature must be checked on the actual product before use: the supply voltage and programming signal levels must match the connected microcontroller’s requirements.
This programmer can be used for:
Education and practical training: learning AVR microcontroller programming and testing programs on educational development boards.
Electronic prototyping: uploading programs to compatible ATmega-based boards.
Embedded systems: programming microcontrollers used in control, measurement, and automation equipment.
Electronics maintenance: reading or rewriting accessible memory on compatible microcontrollers, subject to their read and write protection settings.
Here are a few project ideas in which this programmer can be used to upload the microcontroller’s program:
Automatic lighting: controlling LEDs based on a light sensor.
Digital thermometer: measuring temperature and displaying it on a screen.
Automatic irrigation: controlling a pump based on soil moisture measurements.
Electronic alarm: monitoring sensors and activating an audible alarm.
Mobile robot: managing sensors and controlling motors through suitable motor driver circuits.
The programmer is used to transfer the program. Sensors, displays, motors, and other components required for these projects are separate.
